The Idea and Inspiration for the MadPack Maps:

Many newer games allow you to race their maps in reverse and even mirrored directions. Although the maps are similar these race variations can seem totally different. Insane's standard maps have gotten a bit old and many people avoid playing them simply because they have already raced them for many many years. So... the inspiration came to Spidey and me to attempt to create something a little different out of Insane’s venerable old standard maps.

We have taken great pains to place our gates as close as possible to where the original gates stand. The only change we have made to these maps is to reverse the order in which you race the gates. (Reverse and Mirror maps now made with Kaine's handy app.)

Our original intention was not to try to replace the standard maps but to create a set of reverse maps that would stand separately like other add on maps. However, we ran into the problem that we could not save our reverse maps with a different name, i.e., we could not simply rename derby.idf to derbyrvs.idf. Therefore, we were not going to release these maps for the general public since we were not trying to mod the whole game and make everyone NEED our reverse maps.

The reason we have decided to release our reverse maps is because we have had some interest in them and some complaints about the fact they were not available to everyone. So, here they are! Do what you want with them. If you like them, have fun!! If you don't like them, don't use them.

It is interesting to note that our reverse maps are still compatible with the original maps. We are able to play with those that do not have our reverse maps. This has actually added a new dimension itself. Anyone with our maps will run the race in the opposite direction to those without. This can make for some interesting and amusing racing. If you ever thought it was tough to get through a gate side by side with another player wait until you try getting through when you are approaching another vehicle head long at twice the relative speed!!!

In closing, not everyone has or likes every mod that has been done or made available for this game. You may find that some people have issue with our reverse maps. Some have even called them 'cheats' since we have ‘dared’ to modify the standard maps. We firmly disagree with this opinion since nothing has been changed in these maps but the order of the gates. Nothing was done to make them any easier! Some maps are actually harder in the reverse direction!

If you have any questions just look for us on Gamespy. We will be glad to help. If you can’t find us don’t hesitate to ask around. Someone is bound to be able to help you out.

Always remember this is a game! It is meant to be fun. If you like something… enjoy it. If you don’t… do something else.

 Good luck and have fun!!!

Update

The MadPack Reverse Map and Random Mod Updater has morphed into a nice clickable user interface! The program is now called iFiler 3 - MadPack Edition. Many thanks to Kaine for allowing me to have and modify his source code to iFiler2.The MadPack program has become a full function program to move all map and vehicle files in and out of storage. You can also set specific MadPack maps as active instead of the whole set. Your game pack can be sent to the server using the Host function. You can get other's game packs and load them automatically using the Client function. As with the final version of the old MadPack Client.cmd, if you are missing any files in the loaded pack you are given the opportunity to download and install them automatically! I continue to tweak, fiddle and add to the program so don't forget to use the convenient check for updates function found in the help menu! As always have fun or don't play the game!!!

Old Update

The "MadPack Reverse Map Updater" has become the "MadPack Reverse Map & Random Mod Updater"! This came about while tinkering with a simple command line program to make it easy to switch between the standard maps and our reverse maps, we decided to incorporate the additional function of switching between the different random map generators that are available. While most people who play Insane on Gamespy are currently using what is known as the TRM1 random mod, there are others available, namely the original random maps and Fat Alfie’s F.A.R.M. project. Having a way to easily switch between the 3 random generators allows for the widest variation in the map surfaces possible!
